Mimi Jean-Louis: #TheWrestlingChic

The first night of WWE WrestleMania 38 was impressive, to say the least. The night's most significant
moments were Bianca Belair's championship HBCU classic against Becky Lynch, the return of
"American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin ending the night after two
decades.

THE RESULTS

  • The Usos retain their Smackdown Tag Team Championships
  • The Miz and Logan Paul win by pinfall against The Mysterios
  • Bianca Belair wins, becoming the new RAW Women’s Champion
  • Drew McIntyre wins by pinfall against Happy Corbin
  • Cody Rhodes wins his debut match against Seth Freakin’ Rollins
  • ‘The Queen’ Charlotte Flair wins by pinfall to retain her Smackdown Women’s Championship
  • ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin destroys the KO Show and wins his comeback match after 19 years against Kevin Owens

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Bianca's big win

To say Bianca Belair understood the assignment before she was given the assignment is an understatement. Order in the realm was restored when Drum Major Belair marched into her championship match with one of the most prominent HBCU marching bands in the nation Ocean of Soul, at Texas Southern University, playing her entrance theme. For eight months, SummerSlam’s "26 Seconds" left Belair fans shocked and seething with heat for Becky Lynch. The two WWE Superstars put on a show-stopping classic that will forever be etched as one of the most incredible women's wrestling matches. The classical clinic included countless beckspolders, a manhandle slam on the steel steps, a stunning 450 splash, and Belair’s powerful KOD for a vindicated win.

Cody's return

"American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes returned Home to the WWE. Rollins filed a grievance with the office demanding a match on the grandest stage. Rollins entered with a chorus of impressionable singers, leading to a still and dark stadium for 60 seconds; Rhodes was elevated from the floor to an erupting welcoming crowd. Rhodes left WWE six years ago, intending to impact the business and make a name for himself. Their match featured inverted superplexes, a top-rope Cody Cutter, a Pedigree, and multiple CrossRhodes finishers to win his return match, home.

Wrestlemania’s edition of The KO Show featuring "Stone Cold" Steve Austin closed the show, leaving fans on the ultimate high. Owens braved a challenge to Austin for a no-holds-barred match, with knowledge of the Hall of Famer not being in the ring in WWE in 19 years. Austin and Owens’ fight was combined with punches, kicks, outside-ring action, and ATV-riding suplexes, capturing a "stunning" beer bashing win.

WWE’s Wrestlemania night one consumed 77,899 fans in attendees.
